Three subminiature tubes (1AH4?(hidden deep), 1AJ5, 1V6), two transistors (Emerson, 2x 815003), superheterodyne circuit
One 45-volt "B" battery, one 4-volt "A" battery
Manufactured by Emerson Radio and Phonograph Corp., New York

Same housing in general as the 1953 four subminiature tube Emerson 747 — its 1AG4 audio tube was replaced here with two AF transistors, thus the somewhat opportunistic "TRANSISTOR POCKET RADIO" designation on the 838's cabinet's face.
