1959 Benida 6TR-270

Shirt pocket radio, thermoplastic cabinet
4 x 2 9/16 x 1 5/16 inches / 102 x 65 x 33 mm
Six transistors (made by TEN), superheterodyne circuit
One standard 9-volt battery
Manufactured by Shirasuna Denki, Japan

A true "sleeping beauty" with an understated cabinet design incorporating two strongly-contrasting plastic colors in the cabinet (ivory and midnight blue), a textured metal grille, and a reverse-painted tuning dial. The red-and-ivory version of this set doesn't work nearly as well in this design scheme. I'd have to say that this Benida radio is my very favorite "off-brand" Japanese pocket transistor radio. Shirasuna Denki is best known among collectors for its "Silver" brand name of transistor radios.
