1958 Sharp TR-173 "Collie" (1959 example)

Coat pocket radio, thermoplastic cabinet
5 13/16 x 3 7/16 x 1 9/16 inches / 148 x 87 x 40 mm
Six transistors (Toshiba: 2S45, 2S52, 2S53, 2S54, 2x 2S56, + glass diode (1N60?)
Superheterodyne circuit
Four 1.5-volt "AA" cells
Manufactured by Hayakawa Electric Co. Ltd., Japan (Sharp)

Nearly identical in cabinet and chassis to the Sharp TR-180, also produced in 1958. The tuning dial center on this example is not original. This TR-173 example was assembled in early 1959.

(Just wondering: Who named this radio "Collie", and why? Were there any other radios made by Sharp that had their own moniker? — I'm not aware of any, but maybe you can tell me otherwise by emailing me.)
