Seven transistors (Sony) superheterodyne circuit

Circa 1959, maybe 1958. A two-band coat pocket radio covering the MW and LW bands, this 710-L model was marketed for Europe, where the long wave band was in common usage at the time -- I got this set from a seller in France.

Collector Michael Jack shows two other versions marketed for Canada, both being two-band MW/SW sets, one covering 1.5-4.5 MHz on its shortwave band, and the other covering 6-18 MHz. He describes this model as, "handsome and sensible", and I couldn't agree more with that!

This radio comes with a 100 cm (39 1/2 inch) telescopic antenna, much more suited to the MW/SW versions than to a MW/LW set. (You'll notice in the chassis photo below that there are two separate coils wrapped around the ferrite rod: one for MW and one for LW -- the telescopic antenna is superfluous.)
