1956/57 Philco T7-128
Micro-table / small portable radio, thermoplastic cabinet
7 x 4 1/4 x 1 3/4 inches / 178 x 108 x 45 mm
Seven transistors (Philco, 2x L-5028, 2x L5113L, 2x L5114L, S-1001), superheterodyne circuit
Two 1.5v D cells
Philco's first transistor radio, the T7 can be found in two cabinet versions: the 1956 T7-126 with a painted metal speaker grille so soft that you almost can dent it just by staring at it, and the 1957 T7-128 which has a plastic louvered speaker grill that's not only dent-proof but also makes the radio look infinitely better than the 126. I'm showing only the T7-128 here — it's not just better looking than the 126 but also much less commonly found. In fact, over years of following eBay listings I've seen dozens and dozens of metal grille T7-126s and nary a plastic grille T7-128. One of the best and truly classic cabinet designs of the early US transistor radios!
