c.1950s Maruemu "Hi-Fi Super" Germanium diode radio

4 5/16 x 2 5/16 x 1 3/16 inches / 110 x 59 x 30 mm
Thermosetting cabinet
Manufactured by Maluemu Co., LTD, Japan

A fairly primitive-looking diode radio with a larger than usual cabinet for this sort of set. An entry on RadioMuseum.org dates this as c.1956, though I don't know how that circa date was arrived at.

This example came in a nice colorful box along with some colorful instruction pages (see below). The cabinet plastic on this set is thermosetting -- like Bakelite -- but with a very dull finish that makes the set look really cheap. By contrast, the Miniman M-702 has a beautiful glossy green thermosetting plastic cabinet. Most diode radios had cabinets made of thermoplastic, like that found on most transistor radio cabinets.
